The Last of Us Part II Will Only Feature Ellie as a Playable Character

At Sonys E3 presentation on Tuesday, we were shown gameplay footage of The Last of Us Part II for the first time. Prior to the presentation, we’ve been teased with two trailers releasing a sense of a raw and gruesome storyline to come.

During a behind closed door session at E3 which featured multiple developers of the game. Richard Cambier, Co-lead game designer announced that they will not be commenting on playable characters.

However, it was Neil Druckman, Creative Director who confirmed –

“Ellie is the only playable character in the game”.

In the first game, you play as Joel with Ellie accompanying you shortly after the prologue. When you reach Winter, you play as Ellie for the first time.

It’s possible that due to how much time has passed since we’ve last seen Joel, he’s best not fighting as much as he used to. That being said, it’s also worth considering that Naughty Dog could be misdirecting players so it’s a surprise when you eventually get to play as Joel.

What do you think about this announcement, is it true? If so, how does that make you feel? Let me know by leaving a comment below, or tweet me @charlteon
